Dongsi English Company, formerly known as Caption English and famous for its MP Look series, has gained popularity among English learners.
The MP Look series, consisting of ambitious digital audio and video devices aimed at simultaneous interpretation, was first released in December 2002, acquiring not only a domestic patent but also an international one under the patent cooperation treaty (PCT).
The company, which has been producing English learning materials for more than a decade, introduced the world's first MP3 caption player. While first targeting young students, it has gained popularity among all levels of the population, being used by anyone eager to improve their English skills.
As can easily be inferred from the brand name MP Look, devices from the series combine two essential functions of effective English learning -- reading and listening.
MP Look players are equipped with a data-searching function as well as having the ability to repeat previous blocks as required. Recording one's own voice to make a comparison with original pronunciation also helps learners improve their proficiency.
With 256 MB built-in memory, a voice recording function, WMA and MP audio file eligibility, an FM radio receiver and a portable disc for storage, MP Look players have everything a brand-new MP3 player could boast of. The digital sound quality is equal to that of an average CD player and firmware upgrading through UBS is of course available, while the refined silver-lined slim design is another factor making the device attractive to potential users. And after all, it weighs only 51g including battery, and measures only 80mm x 42.6mm x 17.3mm.
Also, "Look Sync" is another system with patent rights held by the company. With MP Look, it can provide the words of various pop songs real-time, enabling learners to sing along and have fun while learning English expressions at the same time.
"In addition to the diverse functions of the player, customers can also download a variety of English learning materials from Dongsi's website for free when they buy one," Roh Young-hoon, an executive of the company, said. "It would be a good opportunity to possess the latest MP3 player and digital language learning device and of course, master a foreign language," he added.
Dongsi English Company not only holds several domestic and international patent rights regarding cassette tapes and MP3 caption players, but also provides a wide range of contents for English learning. These include "Dream TOEIC" and "GET2," special online programs aimed at preparing learners for official English tests such as TOEIC or TEPS. The company also publishes three monthly magazines for English learners at different levels, while Tell Me More, a two-level(junior and senior) caption program, specializes in improving conversational skills.
